The student union of Kisii university is an autonomous and independent organization run by students elected leaders in collaboration with the university management,university council and all stakeholders of higher education for the benefit and well being of all Kisii university students.
Our union finds its legal authority and mandate in the universities act 2012(article 41) and customized in the Kisii university charter 2013. In line with to section 22 of the Kisii University Charter, 2013 and statute XL of Kisii University Statutes, 2013, there is established a student union to promote the general interests of students and to afford an official channel of communication between the students and relevant university organs. Pursuant to statute XL (4) of Kisii University Statutes, 2013, the student union has herein set forth her modus operandi for the good of all her members.
Aims and Objectives
As per the provisions of this constitution, the aims and objectives of KUSU shall be to:
a) Establish an efficient and effective student Union which will work for the students’ rights through representation at all organs of the University and thus be a means through which student interests
shall be channeled to the relevant authorities;
b) Strive to foster the spirit of unity and understanding among students, between
students and the University administration, and general populace;
c) Strive to make a contribution towards promotion of academic freedom and excellence in line with university objectives through research, pursuit of knowledge and community service;
d) Ensure equitable gender representation and participation in student affairs of the University;
e) Be a means through which the students’ sense of leadership qualities and other talents are identified and enhanced;
f) To seek, enhance and maintain the freedom of conscience, expression, association, academic, liberty and all the rights and privileges accruing to members by virtue of humanity, age, status, sex, citizenship and other relevant criteria;
g) Foster student awareness and participation in national and international; academic, social, economic, political and environmental issues;
h) Encourage continued cooperation and support of former Kisii University students
through the Alumni Association;
i) Endeavor to achieve its objectives devoid of tribal political, social, religious and racial bias;
j) Shall be an independent body responsible for providing a recognized and representative channel of communication between the Union membership, Kisii University and other bodies;
The student union is established to promote the general interest and to afford a recognized channel of communication between the student body and relevant University organs. The student union acts as the student government and is recognized as such by the University act and by the government.

The students’ union is composed of executive members and congress members both who are elected by the students.
